About StoryWorld

STORYWORLD is an award-winning multilingual early literacy program that uses the magic of stories to develop strong early reading and language skills.  Founded in 2015 and developed by the former head of educational technology for Scholastic, the program uses engaging stories and images with interactive games and activities to build a strong foundation in literacy by integrating vocabulary and phonics with reading, listening, speaking and writing.

We asked Cynthia Harrison Barbera, Founder and CEO at StoryWorld, to tell us more:

Why did you start your company?

STORYWORLD grew out of my experience teaching English to young learners overseas. I saw first-hand the transformative power of a good story to engage children and then form the centerpiece of a captivating literacy journey that applies to language.

How do you develop your products?

Everything about STORYWORLD comes out of direct classroom teaching experience with young children. Our collaborative team of skilled multilingual educators all have extensive classroom experience and contribute creative ideas and tested methods so that our program is continually informed by best practices.

Every step of the way, we test our methods with educational practitioners. We are guided by research provided by WestEd, the country’s leading educational researcher and our research partner for over 8 years.

We’re proud to report that the #1 response from all research studies has been the overwhelmingly high student engagement reported by virtually every classroom teacher.
