It’s hard to know where to begin, with so many changes happening all at once. What we know for sure is that all of our kids need more support, not less. Our schools need more support, not less. And our informal learning spaces (libraries, museums, parks, and community centers) need more support, not less.
The new administration’s cuts to the U.S. Department of Education mean less of everything our kids need. But families have the power to get informed, get prepared, and get engaged. Here are some resources to consider:
- Get Informed: New America describes how these cuts hurt student learning, student privacy, english language learners, and students with disabilities (504 plans). Hechinger Report is tracking the latest news, including threats to charter schools.
- Get Prepared: In future posts, we will share the ways our partners continue to deliver critical resources. First Book supports educators who serve low-income communities. StoryWorld, Tinkercast, Killer Snails, and many others build on their federally funded research to educate kids and families.
- Get Engaged: 5calls.org provides contact information and a sample message. Tell your representatives that you value the U.S. Department of Education, and you are counting on them to protect its funding.
We advocate for our kids in different ways, every day. They need us to take action now before losing out on critical resources that help them learn and grow.
