Measuring Impact

A digital tool might engage kids to play for long periods of time, but how do we know that time is well spent? Independent researchers conduct studies to measure different type of outcomes.

  • Some apps address learning gaps such as reading or math, or improve understanding of science, social studies, and other school subjects.
  • More and more digital tools support physical and mental well-being, including games designed for social-emotional learning.
  • Many popular tools can teach kids how to code and practice other 21st century skills such as creativity, collaboration, and communication.

Impact also involves serving all of the kids who could benefit from a given tool, not just a select few. The U.S. Department of Education’s Parent and Family Digital Learning Guide has a helpful overview.
